He’d be the last person to hype Preen as a fashion fairytale, but to Justin Thornton, the way things are turning out is beginning to feel a bit like a morality tale. “If there are hares and tortoises in fashion,” he says, “we’re definitely tortoises.” From their start making street-slash-deconstucted clothes in premises under the grimy flyover at Portobello in 1997, he and his partner-in-life, Thea Bregazzi, have wended their way to have become relatively recent fixtures on the New York show calendar.
